WIZARD WORDS

A newsletter from Washington Elementary and Washington PTA

February 6, 2017

PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE

Dear Families,

For important WES attendance guidelines and educational absences information, check out this attendance policies link, which is also on the main page of our website. It is important for families to know when scheduling trips during the school year that 10 or more consecutive absences can result in being unenrolled from Washington and returning to your base school. Please carefully consider these guidelines before scheduling trips.

WCPSS Transportation is making improvements to the online communication system that families use to request service.

The most important change for parents requires they provide a valid student ID when using the Transportation web page to submit questions about their students’ bus service. The valid student ID and matching student name must be provided to submit the request.

Schools provide families the student's ID, which can be found online in Home Base, on report cards, or from teachers or data managers.

~Mr. Grant

PTA Recruitment

Would you like to be more involved at school, but you’re not sure how?

Are you not sure what’s needed or who to contact?

Here is the info! Our Wizard PTA Nominating Committee is on the search for Washington parents who would like to join us for the 2017-2018 school year!

Below are just some of the roles we are looking to fill. If you have skills or interests in these roles, please complete this survey: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/GY27LKN OR contact Kindergarten parent Kristen Beck at beckclanqueen@gmail.com for more information!

  • Shining Star Fundraising Committee: Our fundraiser was hugely successful this year and raised approximately $23,000 for our school. Every penny of this money goes to our school to benefit our students, teachers, and classrooms. Committee members work together to organize, publicize, collect donations, and celebrate donations with our Shining Star Wall of Fame!
  • Events Committee: Do you love planning events? Our Events committee works together to plan Fall Picnic, Arts & Letters Night, Math & Science Night, Cultural Night, Spring Celebration, and other events throughout the year. Our events at Washington are a time for us to come together for FUN and to celebrate our diverse school community.
  • Membership Committee: We are only as strong as our volunteers! Our membership committee works together to organize, publicize, and recruit new members to our PTA. If you love building relationships in our school community, this committee is for you!
  • Treasurer/Audit: Are you good with money and want to let everyone else do the planning? Then you would be a great person to help with being our Treasurer or serving on our Audit Committee. The PTA is a non-profit organization that tracks all monies donated and spent. Someone with these skills is a crucial part of our team!

Other areas of opportunity include staff appreciation, PTA website, school store, yearbook, newsletter, special education inclusion committee, hospitality, science fair, cultural night and many more!

We want you to share your gifts with our PTA in order to benefit ALL of our students!

WAKE Up and Read January 21 – March 4

WAKE Up and Read

From January 21 – March 4, Washington Elementary will serve as a collection site for the WAKE Up and Read book drive.  We will be collecting new and gently-used books for children ages birth-12.  We know that helping children develop a love for reading early in life can pave the way for later school success, and we want to ensure that every child in our community has the opportunity to grow and thrive.  To learn more about the WAKE Up and Read collaborative campaign, please visit www.wakeupandread.org, or find us on Facebook at www.facebook.com/pages/Wake -Up-and-Read.  Thank you for your support – together we can make a difference here in Wake County!

THANK YOU!

We recently raised $600 from YOUR Box Top donations!

Thank you and keep them coming!
