A newsletter from Washington Elementary and Washington PTA
October 16th, 2017
Dear Washington Families,
At Washington GT, we have one of the most diverse student/family populations in Wake County. Our diversity is one of our greatest assets. Learning from, understanding, and appreciating people from different backgrounds, races, family structures, and religions, among others, serves to build a community where all families and students feel valued and can thrive.
Our Fall Picnic is this Thursday from 5:00-7:00pm and is a great opportunity to come together as a Washington GT Family. I invite you to engage in a get to know you activity that I will be leading during our Fall Picnic. Families will be given a slip of colored paper during the Fall Picnic. When announced, you will find another person/family you may not know well, or at all, with a slip of paper the same color as yours. You will take 6 minutes to discuss any of the questions below you choose. When the signal is given, you will find another family with the same colored slip of paper and repeat.
I hope you will actively join me in taking the opportunity to learn from, engage, laugh, and talk with each other. Building deeper connections makes for a stronger and caring school family.

You may know Leigh Hines as a fellow Washington parent, but she is also our PTA Past-President! Leigh was our fearless leader last school year and she put her public relations skills to work helping expand the Staff Appreciation and Magnet Relations committees. She is one of our social media masters and has also served on the Wizard Wear committee for two years. Even though Leigh is no longer PTA President, she continues to be an active volunteer on various committees this year.
Leigh, thank you for sharing your gifts and talents with Washington!

The PTA uses MemberHub to send out emails (like this newsletter) but it also works as our School Directory! By setting up an account with all of your family members listed and joining your child's classroom hub, you can easily connect with other families at Washington. Take a minute to request to join MemberHub here: https://washingtongt.memberhub.com/join/pe8h0b
Did you know that there is a Magnet Relations Hub in MemberHub? Do you want to show off how great Washington GT is to new families interested in our school? If you are interested in helping out at magnet recruitment events this year please email our magnet coordinator Amy Wilkinson at firstname.lastname@example.org.
